Charles Bridge – the history, the stories and the never-ending magic

Charles Bridge (Karlův most) is not only one of the most recognizable landmarks in Prague, but also a historical symbol of the city and of Europe as a whole. Built in the 14th century by Emperor Charles IV, the bridge connected the Old Town (Staré Město) with the Lesser Town (Malá Strana). Since then, it has been a must-see for anyone visiting Prague.

A little history

The builders who built the bridge used advanced methods for their time. It is said that the mortar that held the bridge's stones together also included a mixture of... eggs! The goal was to give it additional strength. Over the years, this fact has become a folk tale that fascinates tourists to this day.

Over the centuries, the bridge has experienced floods, battles, and repairs, but has always remained steadfast in its place. Today, it features 30 baroque statues of Christian saints, each telling a fascinating story.
